I so often forget that I can begin again. Start where I am…! The beginning of this lovely Pinterest post “Start Where You Are…was found on Motivational Quotes, Best Quotes, you may find also by clicking on this link: – How easy it is to forget. The other way of saying this that I have used quite often is Begin Again!
If you’re anything like me, I often think I’ve got to learn more, figure something else out, then do. Not so. Sometimes we can begin, with what we have, and just do what we can, when we can! That’s it!
I also cannot take complete credit for understanding this more simply than yesteryear. Age has something to do with it too! 😀
This piece is called “Butterfly Turtle.” Check out the portfolio section for more details. If you have additional questions, email me at lolita@sacredspacesbydesign.com.
I created these soothing stones as I remember as a child I would become so nervous and anxious about, well just about everything. The only solace I had was to go into the backyard, and discover everything. I was intrigued by nature. I collected stones. I was amazed at how they changed appearance when they were wet. How much more you could see of their design and history.
When I started looking into and studying shamanism, it all came back. Everything. I wanted to create something that could soothe anyone, made with love, compassion, concern, heart, good will, good energy, and calming for even the most nervous person. Something you could put in your pocket, or wear as a necklace or both. The idea came from several places, including a good friend of mine who is now no longer with us, Rudy De La Haya, who one day gave me a heart made of marble, with a dimple in it for my thumb. It was a soothing stone, but I didn’t know that. He said you hold this in your hand, like this and wish on it, it did calm me down. I put it on a shelf at home and kept it there so I could see it, and picked it up every once in a while.
It wasn’t until later that I got it. Now I’m making them. The history is unknown to me, I will look it up, though wanted to share. I’ll have events on Zoom where I can show you how to make them. That process is a de-stressor too!
When I get this site further along, you’ll learn how you may obtain one also.
I had been working on launching one of my sites, socialserviceacademy.com, which was finally ready to launch, I was super exhausted and excited, so I decided to make art. An easy way to get started without a lot of fuss is to use Magic Markers. I use Mr. Sketch, non-toxic, scented. What I love about them are the vivid colors they produce, then combined by layering, make beautiful, blended colors creating a mosaic effect with repeated use.
I start with ready to use art book I created using a technique I learned from Marina Tselner of Art Heart called “Smash Booking.” This book is created and ready to use at a moments notice, though any art journaling pad, paper or card stock or canvas will do. I began the exercise with an idea of images that represented how I was feeling. On this day, I was feeling like flowers blooming so I drew them. As I continued it felt like there was more to this launching feeling than was represented so I kept going. That’s the idea, just keep going, and don’t be afraid to stop until you feel complete. That the energy of the moment(s) have been expressed. That’s it!
Marina Tselner of studioartheart.com inspired the book I used to create this art piece and many others during the “Cosmic Smash Book workshop” I attended. Find out more here:
P.S. This piece was done with Mr. Sketch, Magic Markers 🙂 and feel free to use any medium you wish.
